Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity in Northern Peats Inferred From Other Measurements

چکیده

In northern peatlands, near-saturated surface conditions promote valuable ecosystem services such as carbon storage and drinking water provision. Peat saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ksat) plays an important role in maintaining wet by moderating drainage evapotranspiration. Ksat can exhibit intense spatial variability three dimensions change rapidly response to disturbance. The development of skillful predictive equations for peat other properties, akin mineral soil pedotransfer functions, remains a subject ongoing research. We report meta-analysis 2,507 samples, from which we developed linear models that predict variables, including depth, dry bulk density, von Post score (degree humification), categorical information microform type peatland trophic (e.g., bog fen). decreases strongly with increasing humification; increases along the gradient fen peat. Dry density humification are particularly predictors increase model skill greatly; our best model, includes these has cross-validated r2 0.75 little bias. A second but omits intended rapid field estimations Ksat, also performs well (cross-validated = 0.64). Two additional omit several perform less ∼ 0.5), greater bias, allow be estimated comprehensive data. Our improved estimation simpler, cheaper measurements.

ring size dependence of field saturated hydraulic conductivity measurements in a clay loam soil

field saturated hydraulic conductivity (kfs) is one of the most important soil properties that considerably contribute to soil quality. however, specifically in the structured soils, the measurement of kfs is difficult and time-consuming. therefore, verifying the simple and fast methods for kfs measurement is needed for effective soil monitoring. this study was conducted to investigate the effe...

Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity Prediction fromMicroscopic Pore Geometry Measurements and Neural NetworkAnalysis

Traditional models to describe hydraulic properties in soils are constrained by the assumption of cylindrical capillarity to account for the geometry of the pore space. This study was conducted to develop a new methodology to directly measure the porosity and its microscopic haracteristics. The methodology is based on the analysis of binary images collected with a backscattered electron detecto...

Study of Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity Variations in Different Aggregate Size Distributions in an Agricultural Soil

Saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks) is one of the most important soil physical characteristics that plays a major role in the soil hydrological behaviour. It is mainly affected by the soil structure characteristics. Aggregate size distribution is a measure of soil structure formation that can affect Ks. In this study, variations of Ks were investigated in various aggregate size distributions ...

Arti fi cial Neural Network Estimation of Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity

cial neural networks have become a common tool for modeling complex “input–output” dependencies. In the past, neural network models have been used as a special class of pedotransfer functions (PTFs) using feed-forward back propagation or radial basis functions to approximate any continuous (nonlinear) function (Hecht-Nielsen, 1990; Pachepsky et al., 1996; Schaap and Bouten, 1996; Minasny and Mc...
